The cable pattern on the band is set into a garter stitch background.
The remainder of the beanie (except for the crown) is worked in stranded colourwork.

Both the band and the colourwork cable patterns are worked over a 12-stitch pattern repeat and can be worked from the charts or the written instructions.

Needles and notions

  • one each 3.25mm/US 3 and 4.5mm/US 7 circular needles, both 40cm/16ins long

  • set of 4mm/US 6 double-pointed needles for crown

  • stitch markers and yarn needle

Tension

After wet blocking, the tension required is 24 sts and 27 rows to 10cm/4ins over colourwork pattern, worked in rounds using 4.5mm needles.
