Halle Socks Pattern

$9.50

This knitting pattern PDF is for the Halle Socks. These socks feature a simple stranded colourwork pattern on the leg and down the top of the foot to the toe. The underside of the sock is contrasted in stranded colourwork stripes.

When you purchase this knitting pattern you will automatically receive an email containing a link to download a PDF.
If you wish to have the pattern in your Ravelry library, please purchase it from Ravelry instead.

The Halle Socks are worked in the round from the rib cuff down with a slip-stitch heel flap and wedge toe. The toe is closed using Kitchener stitch (grafting).

The main stranded colourwork pattern can be worked from the chart or the written instructions.

The pattern includes instructions for using either double-pointed needles or the magic loop method (a working knowledge of magic loop is assumed).

The Halle Socks require intermediate knitting skills.

Needles and notions

  • double-pointed needles (sets of five) in sizes 2.25mm/US 1 and 2.5mm/US 2 OR if using the magic loop method, circular needles in the same sizes approx 100cm/40ins long

  • stitch marker and yarn needle

Tension

The tension required is 38 sts and 41 rows to 10cm/4ins over main colourwork patt (after blocking) using 2.25mm needles, worked in rounds.

Knitting techniques

  • working in rounds and rows

  • rib

  • stranded colourwork

  • short row shaping

  • knitting up stitches

  • Kitchener stitch (grafting)

Kitchener stitch (grafting)

Hold the two knitting needles with wrong sides together so that needle with the 50cm/20ins end attached is at the back and on the right side edge.

Thread end onto a yarn needle. You will work across the sts from right to left. Take care that yarn is pulled firmly (but not tightly) through the sts and make sure the yarn goes under the knitting needles when working from one needle to the other.

Insert yarn needle purlwise (as if to purl) through first st on front knitting needle and leave on knitting needle, then insert yarn needle knitwise (as if to knit) through first st on back knitting needle and leave on knitting needle.

Now continue as follows:

1. Insert yarn needle knitwise through first st on front knitting needle and slide st off knitting needle; insert yarn needle purlwise through next st on front knitting needle and leave this st on knitting needle.

2. Insert yarn needle purlwise through first st on back knitting needle and slide st off knitting needle; insert yarn needle knitwise through next st on back knitting needle and leave this st on knitting needle.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until there is one st left on both needles. Take care at this point that the sts don’t accidently slip off the ends of the knitting needles.

4. Insert yarn needle knitwise through last st on front knitting needle and slide st off knitting needle; insert yarn needle purlwise through last st on back knitting needle and slide st off knitting needle.

5. Insert yarn needle back into sock to wrong side and weave in end securely.
