The colourwork pattern can be worked from the chart or the written instructions.

Finished measurements

To fit approx head size child (small adult, large adult)

circumference approx 43 (48, 53) cm/17 (19, 21) ins

depth approx 21 (22, 23) cm/8¼ (8¾, 9) ins

Choose a size that will stretch to fit your head.
It is intended to be worn with approx 2-5cm/¾-2ins negative ease.

8 ply/DK weight wool

Two-colour beanie

Main Colour (M): approx 95 (125, 155) metres/104 (137, 170) yards
Contrast Colour (C): approx 45 (50, 55) metres/49 (55, 60) yards

Three-colour beanie

Main Colour (M): approx 95 (125, 155) metres/104 (137, 170) yards
Contrast Colour 1 (C1): approx 30 (35, 40) metres/33 (38, 44) yards
Contrast Colour 2 (C2): approx 15 (16, 17) metres/16 (18, 19) yards

Four-colour beanie

Main Colour (M): approx 95 (125, 155) metres/104 (137, 170) yards
Contrast Colours 1, 2 and 3 (C1, C2 and C3): approx 15 (16, 17) metres/16 (18, 19) yards of each colour

Add approx 45 metres/49 yards extra for pompom.

Needles and notions

  • one each 3.25mm/US 3 and 4.5mm/US 7 circular needles both 40cm/16ins long

  • set of 4mm/US 6 double-pointed needles for crown

  • stitch marker and yarn needle

  • pompom maker if desired

Tension

After blocking, the tension required is 25 sts and 28 rows to 10cm/4ins over colourwork patt, worked in rounds using 4.5mm needles.
